Want to Serve on the Social Justice Executive Team (SJET)?

A bit of background and information: two members of the current SJET have terms that expire this year and will rotate off. Are you looking for a way to meaningfully engage in social justice here at First UU?

Here's a brief summary. The Social Justice Executive Team is a six person team (4 lay leaders - Bella Furth, Michanne Hoctor-Thompson, Megan Horton, Erik Kaestner - Rev. Kathleen & Angela) that hold meetings twice per month to discuss social action endorsement proposals, activities/initiatives of the ministry team, support the action teams, and facilitate meetings of the ministry team. The commitment is approximately 3-4 hours per month for a two-year term. Desired skills/qualities of team members include but are not limited to:
 

1. Ability to attend regular meetings, either in person or by phone/video
2. Demonstrated commitment to group-based social justice activities (as opposed to individual-based activities, since coordination is a big part of serving on this committee)
3. Diplomatic, team-focused, innovative and interested in identifying & strengthening connections across social justice action teams
4. Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, technical productivity applications (including Google drive and Slack)
5. Open-minded and able to consider and appreciate a variety of interests/perspectives
6. Effective communicator
7. Willingness to take risks and nudge the congregation forward re: social justice issues
8. Willingness to respond to immediate, pressing issues
9. Knowledge of organizations structures within our congregation
