Programs and activities

Generosity Offerings
One important way that we act on our values as a congregation is through our monthly Generosity Offerings. Each month, our congregation gives 85% of our Sunday collection (not designated for the church) to a local organization working to create justice and compassion in our community. Learn more and nominate an organization on our Generosity Offerings page.
Introducing I Love to Glean, Recipient of February and March Generosity Offerings
I Love to Glean is a start up, non-profit food bank located in Chula Vista less than two miles from our South Bay Food Pantry. I am thrilled to share with you that I Love to Glean is also the recipient of the Sunday generosity offerings for February and March.  I Love to Glean is the brainchild of Karen Clay, a visionary and activist who currently lives in Imperial Beach. Karen is a retired event organizer. South Bay Food Pantry volunteers recognize her behind her mask when they see her long gray hair and ancient red pick up truck... Read More
SJMT Bi-Annual Meetings
Twice a year, the leaders of the SJMT meet to make decisions about generosity offerings, coordinate activities, share information, and deepen their leadership skills. All are welcome!

Weekly Food Drive
We collect food to be distributed through our South Bay Food Pantry and invite you to place your non-perishable food donations in the barrel on the patio each week.

Groups

Clean Elections
We fulfill our mission by supporting a proposed Clean Elections Initiative for the City of San Diego in 2020. Our main emphasis at this time is building support for clean elections through contacting past clean elections supporters. See the Clean Elections page.
Climate Justice
The Climate Justice Team's purpose is to create a spiritually grounded, informed, and action-oriented community that provides hope for all living beings through systemic action that stops climate change and heals our planet. Go to the Climate Justice page.
Organizing for Justice
Organizing for Justice serves as the local organizing committee in cooperation with San Diego Organizing Project (SDOP). Members determine the local needs and priorities of First UU in the area of social justice and represent our church at SDOP meetings. Over the last several years, SDOP actions include support for low cost housing, living wage, universal health care and San Diego youth programs. Learn more at our Organizing for Justice page.
Rainbow Action
We work to continue to increase the inclusive posture of First Church so that LGBTs, as well as their friends and supporters, will continue to be safe and comfortable at First Church. For more info, see our Rainbow Action page.
Reproductive Justice Group
Reproductive justice focuses not only on access to safe and legal reproductive health care, but also the social, political, and economic inequalities across communities that historically have limited this access. For more info, see our Reproductive Justice page.
Sanctuary
Our congregation affirms the inherent worth and dignity of every person and we seek justice, equity and compassion in human relations; and, that every person's basic human and civil rights should be respected. As people of faith, we are called to welcome and protect the stranger and to offer safety and loving hospitality to those in need. For more info, see our Sanctuary page.
Souls Offering Loving And Compassionate Ears (SOLACE)
SOLACE is a visitation program that comforts and supports persons held in immigration detention, tells their stories, and advocates for humane immigration policy. For more info see our SOLACE page.
UPTOWN Faith Community Services Center
UPTOWN helps homeless and low-income people, without discrimination, to become self-supporting members of the community. For more info see our UPTOWN page.
