Membership at First UU
Becoming a member of First UU is more than a single event—it is a meaningful step in deepening your connection to this community. If First UU has become an important part of your spiritual, social, or emotional life, membership may be the next step for you. Whether you are seeking a deeper commitment to a community that shares your values, opportunities for leadership and participation, or simply a way to affirm that First Church is your spiritual home, we invite you to explore membership with us.
The Membership Process
Once an individual determines that this is the right church home for them, the steps to membership are the following:
1 |
Schedule a Get-To-Know-You conversation OR attend an Invitation to Community session with the Membership Coordinator to discuss member privileges and responsibilities.
|
2 |
Submit your Membership Form & Pledge Form at any point throughout the process to the Welcome Table, the Membership Coordinator, or a Minister
|
3 |
Lastly, you will have a private pastoral meeting with one of our ministers and sign the “Bond of Union” and discuss whatever you would like to discuss confidentially with a minister. After this meeting, you will be an official member! Throughout the year, we hold New Member Blessings where new members are celebrated, blessed, and formally welcomed into the church community, and you will be invited to attend the next scheduled event.

Pledging and the Bond of Union
To become a church member, our church constitution requires you to sign a Bond of Union and make a pledge of financial support, in any amount. Our church is self-sustaining and all members contribute time, talent and treasure by attending services, volunteering and becoming engaged in the many ongoing activities this community offers.
A membership pledge is the financial commitment many members make to support the work of the church. Our church is largely funded by these contributions, which help sustain our services, programs, staff, and facilities. Pledges are made once every 12 months, and payments can be made all at once, monthly, or throughout the year. The amount, timing, and method of payment are up to each member. There is no required pledge minimum. If you are unable to make a financial pledge, you may request a confidential 12-month pledge waiver from the minister when finalizing your membership or at any point throughout your membership.
