Charting Our Path Forward
In 2019’s “Visioning Study,” well over 200 First UU members and friends described their “dream church.” In May 2021 we revisited those dreams (such as a full-time Social Justice Coordinator and beautiful, safe campuses) and how to fund them—as well as identify new dreams and needs.
All First UU members and friends were invited to attend a Funding Our Future Focus Group Discussion. Each session consisted of a lay-led 25-minute presentation (including remarks from Rev. Kathleen) followed by discussion and questions from all attendees. While many of the sessions were held via Zoom, four were held as live events at both Hillcrest and a South Bay location, the first time since March 2020 that we could gather together in person! Over 170 members and friends participated in one of these 24 sessions. By attending, they are helping shape what will happen in the months to come as we seek to fund our needs and dreams and providing a springboard to our future together during the interim ministry process and in calling a new Lead Minister. On Thursday, June 3, a comprehensive report with observations, conclusions, and recommendations was delivered to the our Board. We look forward to receiving their direction at the June 20 annual meeting as to any next steps in this process. Together—in Beloved Community—we’ll greet the future, strong in our faith and in our commitment to one another and our mission. |
