Brian Krohne Brian is a computer programmer with roots in California and Tennessee. Before coming to San Diego, Brian attended UU congregations in South Carolina and Atlanta. Brian is the father of a one-year old daughter Esther, who is often seen wandering around the patio after services offering fist bumps. Brian, Esther, and Becca have lived in San Diego since 2015. Andrea Gonzalez Since becoming a member in 2013, Andrea can regularly be found fishing at least one of her children out of a bush, fountain, or a river of rocks as well as delivering the Welcome Words with them every second Sunday. Andrea usually teaches a summer RE class or two, she attended the Parent Lounges until a year after her daughter’s 2015 child dedication ceremony when chronic illness and her children's evolving needs transformed her church involvement. Andrea has advised the search committee during the ongoing process to find a new Director of Family and Lifespan Ministry, volunteers to be an extra pair of hands in the nursery, or assures anxious parents that their babies' squeals are welcomed and affirmed during service. The Earth Centered Spirituality Circle continues to enrich Andrea's spiritual path by allowing her the sacred duty of calling the Spirit of the North at the Yule Ritual since 2013. Her children were regular attendees of the kids' Pagan 101 classes in 2018 and now they can regularly be found casting the Children's Circle on the Sabbats or playing with the other "witchlings" twice a month at Pagan Conversations. Like an extended family, First UU Church of San Diego has given comfort and support to Andrea and her family through some very difficult times. Now, she is grateful for the nomination to serve on the board so that she may return that kindness to the congregation. Maureen McNair After being a member for over two decades, I’ve decided to run for the Board of Trustees. My primary goal is to work within our Fifth Principle — the use of the democratic process within congregations — by increasing transparency between the Board and the members and friends of the church. I hope to work with other Board members, staff, ministers, and congregants to increase the flow of information and to welcome everyone to participate in the abundant volunteer opportunities our beloved community affords each of us. I primarily attend South Bay services. Laura Ball First UU Church of SD has been a part of my family since, according to family lore, my great grandparents brought First Church's hymn and aspiration west from their congregation in Chicago when they moved to San Diego. I chose to return to the congregation when I came back to San Diego after college and working in Minnesota because it is where I found community in San Diego and a way to strive to live my values. I have been active in a number of groups and committees throughout my life including RE as (a child, youth, adult, parent, youth adviser, OWL instructor); wisdom circle participant; environmental and social justice activities; D4$; Looking Glass Theater; and usher. Professionally I am a Project Officer for the City of San Diego's Parks and Recreation Department, helping plan and manage the City's open space parks and canyons. First UU has been a meaningful source of support and community to me and I am humbled to be asked to serve on the Board.
