The pandemic situation and official recommendations are changing rapidly. We as a team are continuing to keep abreast as we prepare guidelines specific to our church situation. We have stated it will soon be okay to resume the lowest-risk types of in-person gatherings. These are small groups in outdoor settings, provided they observe the several precautions and procedures we outlined in our last update. Opening date for these meetings will be announced soon. Beyond this we reiterate that air circulation factors and air filtering levels remain our top priority as we move toward consideration of indoor gatherings.
We know that certain businesses and even other churches are moving ahead. But recent on-site investigations, aided by professionals, have found that our air ventilation situation, particularly in the meeting house, does not permit quick moves by us toward indoor gatherings. For example, some vents that have always been assumed to blow air to the outdoors do in fact blow air back in. Obviously, this must be fixed before we can move ahead. Types of filters and rate of air turnover also have to be raised to necessary standards. While we are proceeding carefully, it should not be said that we are suffering from an overabundance of caution. We know the goal, we know how anxious many people are, and we know it can seem like "everyone else" is moving faster than we are. But the air situation requirements are clear and our shortcomings prevent us from going ahead just yet. Contracts are being negotiated to do the necessary remedial and upgrade work. Your patience is appreciated. We will be sending out a brief survey to find out first if most people will feel safe about coming together once we give a green light. And second we'll want to know the vaccination level in our congregation. We're not dictating anything but we'll want to know what we've got. Please watch for the survey and thanks again to everyone for record levels of patience.
