JTW-Intercultural-Workshop Facilitated by Nehrwr Abdul-Wahid, Founder/Lead Consultant, One Ummah Consulting
Saturday, October 2, 2010 - 8:30 am to 4 pm

First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, Hillcrest Campus
Contact Person: Jan Carpenter Tucker
How do we create an environment where everyone who walks through our doors feels included, engaged and valued?
  • We begin by addressing our assumptions and unpacking our biases.
  • We strengthen our foundation of core values by understanding why the work of racial justice and healing is important for all of us to engage in.
  • We broaden our focus to include all of the ways people are oppressed or marginalized.
  • We ask: What does being inclusive and diverse really mean?
  • We recognize that we all participate in a variety of cultures (family, community, male, female, LGBTQQ, church, age group, etc.). These cultures are created and perpetuated by the people who participate in and interact with them.
  • In order to interact in positive ways with cultures that are not part of our own personal identity, we learn strategies for interpersonal interaction.
  • We are willing to take risks, and accept the reality that we will make mistakes on this journey and learn from them.
  • In this way, we become more confident as intercultural beings.
This workshop was made possible through the generous donations of treasure, time and talent of the staff, board, members and friends of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego. Pay online now, it's fast, easy and you can use any credit card (no PayPal account required).
