Building A Bridge to Our Future Through Generosity & Love

The Vision: For over 150 years, our congregation has been a beacon of progressive values in San Diego. Today, we find ourselves at a threshold — an opportunity to move beyond the status quo and secure our legacy. The Doug Diamond Memorial Capital Campaign & Fund Drive is our collective commitment to move from "debt and dependence" to a future of "liberation and leadership."

The Goal: We have set a goal of $2 million built around three pillars:

Pillar 1: Stewardship & Sustainability (The Foundation) By paying off our mortgage, we reclaim $75,000 each year in interest costs. By replenishing our reserves, we honor our legacy and invite our next Settled Minister into a thriving, debt-free congregation ready for continued growth.

Pillar 2: Enhancing the Spiritual Experience (The Bridge) Whether we sell our campus and move or remain at this location, we deserve a space that reflects our current vitality and growth. This includes hospitality upgrades, a redesigned website (our digital "front door"), improved assisted listening for accessibility, better sound and lighting, and sensible upgrades for our meeting house and Bard Hall.

Pillar 3: Investing in the Vision (The Future) We are actively seeking partners for a vibrant campus redevelopment that will ensure our long-term financial sustainability. This campaign will fund conceptual architectural drawings — blueprints for our dreams — as well as legal and consulting expertise to ensure the best possible use of our land in service of our mission for the next 150 years.

Our Invitation: We are proud to share that the quiet phase of our campaign is complete, and many congregants have already helped us reach a substantial portion of our goal. We ask you to join those donors — along with 100% of our Board and Senior Staff — and make a gift that reflects your love for this community.

Help us burn the mortgage, build our next bridge, and sustain our future.

About Doug Diamond
At every finance meeting he attended, beloved longtime member Doug Diamond reminded us that freeing ourselves from the burden of a mortgage was crucial for our congregation's future success. Doug was wise, thoughtful, and kind — a man with a keen mind for finance and a twinkle in his eye.

Doug passed away on June 4th, 2025, and his beloved Alice has graciously granted us permission to create this campaign in his honor. Alice is certain that Doug would be overjoyed to know that through this campaign, we are now able to retire our mortgage, saving tens of thousands of dollars in interest every year.

This campaign couldn't have happened without you, Doug. We remain ever grateful for your steadfast stewardship and your enduring guidance.
