Taking Leave (for a while)

Dear First UU San Diego community,

As many of you know, my wife, Abi, and I are expecting our first child in November. I will be on leave from November 1st until March 1st in keeping with the church’s leave policy. I am grateful for this important time for our changing family. I am even more grateful that I serve a community in which I have the highest confidence so that I may be away and know that our work together will continue strong.

There are a number of ways you can support the work we do in my absence. If you are available and willing to take on a volunteer or leadership role (from stocking snack to leading programs) let me know ASAP by contacting me here!

While I am away there are a couple of our programs that will be on hiatus including Family Dinners/Brunches and Music for All Ages.

Our regular Lifespan Education programs (children’s, youth, young adult, and adult) will all continue as scheduled as will some of our annual traditions such as the Tree Decorating Party, Christmas Eve No-Rehearsal Pageant, and MLK , Jr. Day of Service.

We will also have an exciting set of Family Ministry Social Justice Events so watch the Window and the Children and Family Ministry e-newsletter for details.

What if I have questions while you are gone?

If you are a CRE leader most of your questions, supply needs, and Sunday support can be covered by our Lifespan Ministry Program Assistant, Tony

If you have a question about a Family Ministry event watch the announcements for the contact person.

If your group needs childcare, requests can be sent to our Scheduler, Rose.

Youth programs and OWL will continue to be supported by our Youth and OWL’s Nest Coordinator, Käthe Larick. Young Adult and Campus Ministry will continue to be supported by our Intern Minister, Sadie Lansdale.

If you have questions about Adult Religious Education you can talk with our amazing ARE leadership team or talk to Rev. Ian. Course proposals can be sent to Lifespan@firstuusandiego.org.

As always, if you or any member of your family is in crisis or you need support our ministerial team (Revs. Kathleen, Ian, and Tania and our Intern Minister Sadie) are here to support you. You can reach them by contacting the main church office.

Thank you for being a part of this multigenerational community committed to nurturing spiritual growth and acting on our values to help heal the world! I look forward to joining back in when I return in March and seeing the amazing things that have manifest while I am away.

Dear Dr. Melissa, you have really well-organized everything for the time you're away! Mike and I wish you and Abi many blessings as you start this new chapter in your lives. I hope we don't have to wait until March to meet your baby, but if so, we will still look forward to that day whenever it occurs! Thanks for all you do in the church - in my opinion, your presence has really made a big difference!!
