Dear First UU Church members and friends,
The leadership team of the Social Justice Ministry Team has endorsed the display of the” Black Lives Matter” banner at First UU Church of San Diego. The Church’s Board of Trustees recently approved a letter of support for the “Black Lives Matter Movement.”
The Board’s letter says, “we stand with members, staff, and ministry teams of First UU Church of San Diego who express their support for the Black Lives Matter movement and act with the UUA and our community partners to further these goals.”
The Social Justice Ministry Team Leadership group voted to display the Black Lives Matter banner in a publicly visible manner at First UU.
There are many ways to learn more about this movement and to become involved. Rev, Jennifer Channin continues to offer “Courageous Conversations” on the topic of racial justice. Our community partner in this work, The San Diego Organizing Project (SDOP) has racial justice meetings, held at their office or one of the other churches on the 2nd Monday of each month. The Organizing for Justice group of the Social Justice Ministry Team has meetings every other month on the Hillcrest campus on the first Wednesday with the SDOP organizer assigned to First UU. An up-coming Economic Justice summit, to be held on the Hillcrest campus, on Saturday, May 9th, 8:30 am – 2:00 pm, will address racism, immigrant justice, income inequality, and the climate change campaign.
For more information, please visit the church’s website and/or come to the Social Justice Ministry Team table at Hillcrest or the Get Involved Table at South Bay. The Social Justice Ministry Team will also have its Spring Meeting on Wednesday, May13, 6:00 – 8:30 pm. Please RSVP to Kristen Kuriga: email@example.com as supper will be provided.
