SD Faith Against Gay Conversion Conference
As UUs we are a welcoming congregation to people who are LGBTQQ. A conference is coming to San Diego June 15-17, that practices 'conversion therapy' on youth, young adults and adults, that has been deemed destructive and abusive by numerous religious leaders, mental health professionals, and more. You are invited to participate in the following events to show that people of faith are, in fact, supportive of the LGBTQQ community and that we will not be silent in the face of abusive practices.
- Thursday, June 15, 5 pm. Clergy will hold a press conference at St. Paul's Cathedral, and then all are invited to a candlelight vigil immediately following. This will be a peaceful vigil.
- Thursdays, June 15, 6 pm-8 pm. There will be a protest rally, with chanting and signs, at the Hilton Mission Valley Hotel.
- Friday, June 16, 8:30-10 pm, there will a "Pride-like" Dance party to show our joy and celebration of being our true, whole selves, near the Hilton hotel.
- Saturday, June 17, 8 pm. Join the Interfaith Community's Call to Love, as we offer quiet witness near the church where the conference is being held, to say that LBTQQ people are loved, accepted, and appreciated for who they already are.
Check out our church FaceBook page for more detailed information on these events. https://www.facebook.com/firstuu.sd
Please wear your yellow 'Standing on the Side of Love' shirts to any event you choose to support.
