First Church is an integral part of the Coalition for Reproductive Choice (CRC) along with 13 other organizations including Planned Parenthood, ACLU, League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women, and Make a Difference Fund. The CRC coordinates the work of each of its organizations that are engaged in protecting everyone’s right to make informed decisions—free from government interference—about reproductive health rights. As a coalition, it seeks to leverage the limited resources and capacities of individual organizations by working together toward common goals.
The CRC hosts the annual Anniversary Celebration of Roe v. Wade, an important fundraising event for reproductive rights. First Church participates fully by helping to organize, publicize, and sell tickets for it. The Defender of Choice award is presented each year at this event to someone who has demonstrated long-standing and meaningful commitment and action in matters of choice. The 2009 recipient of this award was church member and co-chair, Dorene Sulzer.
This action group provides educational materials to the UUWF and Peace and Democracy patio tables when issues arise concerning reproductive rights. It brings speakers to educate and inform church members and friends about the current status and future prospects of reproductive choice.
The Reproductive Rights Action Group fosters and maintains First Church's visibility within the reproductive rights community.
The action group contributes small donations to pro-choice organizations including the CRC and Make A Difference Fund for family planning services.
