Our Whole Lives Facilitator Training for Elementary Level (Grades K-1 / 4-6)
When: Friday, August 12 to Sunday, August 14, 2016
Training begins at 4 pm on Friday and ends at 3 pm on Sunday
Deadline to Register is Sunday, August 7, 2016
Where: First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego 4190 Front Street—San Diego, CA 92103 (1st UU Church is located directly across from the UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest)
Cost: $250 - includes meals (Friday dinner, Saturday (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner, Sunday (Breakfast/Lunch), snacks, & materials (except curricula.)
Trainers: Amy Johnson (UCC) and Ashley Johnson (UU)
Books: All participants must bring with them copies of the Our Whole Lives curriculum books for grades K-1 and 4-6. These cost approximately $80 and can be purchased from the UUA Bookstore. Purchasing the Sexuality and Our Faith books is optional, as they are not required for the training, but recommended.
Members of 1st UU Church will be offering home hospitality to those who request it on a limited basis, first come, first served. San Diego has many hotels in every price range, and transportation from and to the airport is available upon request.
Rooms are also available at the Kings Inn in nearby Mission Valley for a special group rate cost of $149 per night. Our Whole Lives (OWL) is an excellent, comprehensive sexuality education program that offers our young people the opportunity to explore their values, gain accurate information about topics that are often not easily accessible. The overall goal of the Our Whole Lives program is to help participants gain the knowledge, values, and skills they need to lead sexually healthy, responsible lives. We are proud that our congregations recognize that in order for young people to grow into spiritually whole, mature individuals we need to address the topic of sexuality. The material on Sexuality and Our Faith connects our religious beliefs with sexuality, spirituality, and issues on justice.
