Next Steps

Just as each individual experiences a unique spiritual journey, people come to church for a variety of reasons. Some come from a place of deep personal longing, transition or crisis. Some seek encouragement and community. Some long for a place in which they can refresh themselves in an oasis of liberal thought, heart and action. Others seek a place for new and meaningful family tradition.

First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego is a place where individuals are encouraged and supported in developing a meaningful, individual spiritual path while sharing their journey with others doing the same.

We are an intentionally diverse, intergenerational community with a shared respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

We are a Unitarian Universalist congregation, which means, among other things: we govern ourselves, own our land and buildings, and make all the choices about our educational programs, our ministerial staff, our facilities and our ways of serving justice and peace in the world.

You Are Welcome Here

You are warmly invited to get to know us. Knowing that some folks prefer a quiet "checking us out" method while others want to "jump right in" and test the waters ... there are many ways you can find out more about this faith community.

Attend Worship

Our Sunday services are a great way to experience our community. We have a Nursery staffed by professional providers and we have a "wiggle room" in our Meeting House. Children are welcome to enjoy the beginning of each Worship Service with the entire congregation and are then invited to join with the appropriate age group for Religious Education classes.

Take a docent tour

On the second Sunday of each month we offer a docent led tour of our church campus after both worship services. You’ll see our canyon side chapel, our stunning mosaic and sculptures, our religious education rooms and learn more about our history.

Stay for social hour

After each worship service, volunteers work hard at providing a fabulous offering of coffee, tea and refreshments. We also sell organic, fair trade coffee. On many Sundays, homemade, organic and vegan fare is common place. Join us as we visit, renew and socialize on the patio with our five star social hour.

Take a class

The Religious Education program at First Church offers classes of interest year-round. From concerts to meditation, from theatrical performances to guest speakers, there’s always plenty to choose from.

Get acquainted

On the third Sunday of each month, join our Director of Membership and Development , Suzette Southfox, as she meets with visitors, and new members in an informal Get Acquainted Q&A Gathering held between services. You can find out more about our church history and beliefs, Unitarian Universalism in general, and opportunities for getting involved in the many special groups here.

Become a church member

After either worship service the first Sunday of every month, join our Director of Membership and Development to fill out (or review) a Membership Packet, discuss areas of church life you want to explore, find out what a church pledge is and learn about the benefits and responsibilities of membership. You will also be treated to a "behind the scenes tour" of the campus.
