Meditation has become the cornerstone of the faith of many Unitarian-Universalists, whether their belief is agnostic, theist, or atheist, and whether their orientation is Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Islamic, or other. Many have found that their own personal mediation experience has been enhanced by the presence and support of others in group mediation. The Meditation/Buddhist Sangha meets regularly at the Hillcrest campus.
Weekly Schedule:
Sundays: 9-9:20 a.m. (Hillcrest)
A twenty minute sitting meditation is held each week prior to the first Sunday Service. Please see signs on campus for location.
Mondays: 7-8:30 p.m. (Hillcrest)
The Monday evening group begins with a 20 minute silent sitting meditation. This followed a brief ritual and discussion of our meditation and/or practice. The remainder of the time centers around a book discussion.
Wednesdays: 10 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Hillcrest)
The Wednesday meeting begins with a 40 minute meditation at 10 a.m. This meditation can be silent sitting meditation while others do a walking meditation on our church patio. People arrive based on how long they wish to meditate. The meditation is followed by a brief ritual and discussion of our meditation and/or practice. Currently, the group is discussing Food for the Heart: The Collected Teachings of Ajahn Chah during the second hour.
Thursdays: 6:30-8 p.m. (South Bay)
Luis Martell begins with a 30 to 40 minute sitting meditation followed by discussion of our meditation and/or practice.
