JUUL Tones is a small, adult vocal ensemble specializing in a capella music
(that is, music sung without instrumental accompaniment). Andrea Newall,
a member of the First Church music staff, is the director of JUUL
Tones. This ensemble began under Andrea's direction as a part of a
highly successful Looking Glass Theatre stage production, “A Christmas
Carol.” When the production was completed, the members decided to
continue the group on a volunteer basis. In September, 2005, directing
the JUUL Tones was made part of Andrea’s staff responsibility.
The JUUL Tones sing a variety of styles including hymns, pop, doo-wop,
barbershop, gospel, ballads, folk, children's, and contemporary music.
The ensemble sings in Sunday morning services, as well as for special
church events and community functions. Members have a wide range of
musical backgrounds, but they must be able to sing in four- to
eight-part harmony and demonstrate commitment to attending rehearsals,
practicing individually, and improving their musicianship in the
ensemble.
