The next meeting of the Homestretch Sages will be Saturday May 27, 10 am to 12 noon.
In a brainstorming meeting held in January, those in the 80 and 90 year-old age group considered the questions, “What can the Church do for the elder members in our congregation?” and “What can our elder members do for the Church?” That meeting generated a list of ideas for follow up with you.
We have been exploring and revising the group’s purpose and have developed the following focus for Homestretch Sages. It will be:
A place where those in their 80’s and 90’s can share concerns about what is happening to them at that point in their lives when they are dealing with the issues of aging. (70 year olds will be warmly welcomed if they feel they could benefit).
Topics for your consideration include, “family dynamics, caring for a significant other , travel, downsizing, driving, elder abuse, living arrangements, dealing with health concerns, sexual intimacy”. We are also going to need leaders, so think about volunteering.
At this important meeting, Rev. Kathleen will present a brief talk about what it means to be aging . We will break into interest groups to talk about some of the topics above. Refreshments will be served. AND, we will plan for the future of the group, so come with your ideas of what YOU need.
Talk to Jim Grant, Marla English, or Betty Boone if you have questions. RSVP to Betty Boone at e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or phone (619) 997-4375.
