All five San Diego County congregations were represented at the first annual San Diego County Cluster Picnic on Sunday afternoon, November 7. The weather was perfect (even though a little nippy), the food (including the fajitas) were excellent, the games got everyone involved, and members of all five congregations—from South Bay to Vista, Solana Beach to Santee—mingled, chatted and had fun.
Dan Stracka of Palomar UU Fellowship (PUUF) presented the 1st Annual Cluster Picnic Trophy to Jack Shu of Summit UU Fellowship in Santee for organizing a series of games that brought people together and had them jumping for joy.
Lots of UUs had a hand in the success of the picnic (upwards of 75 persons attended) but Mar Cardenas, her husband Gary Loutzenhiser and their son Kevin of First Church/South Bay did the heaviest lifting as far as organization goes. Gary and Kevin spent much of the afternoon over the hot coals cooking up the best fajitas anyone could ever ask for. Everyone sang Happy Birthday to Angela Garcia-Sims of First Church/South Bay (yes, there was a cake), who generously donated $175 to purchase the fajita meat and picnic supplies.
UUs and friends of all ages attended. They came from Chalice UU Congregation in Escondido, First UU Church in Hillcrest and South Bay, Palomar UU Fellowship in Vista, UUFSD in Solana Beach and Summit UU Fellowship in Santee.
Admiral Baker Field is a beautiful location, one which UUs will probably return to for the 2nd Annual Picnic next Fall. For everyone who attended, thanks; for everyone who couldn't make it, we'll see you next year.
