Dana Decker

Contemporary Worship Associate

Dana Decker, originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, began his professional career as an electric and acoustic bassist. He began his professional career at age seventeen playing in a wide variety of venues from intimate clubs to stadiums and everything in between. In 1999 Dana received a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Composition from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachussets. In 2006 Dana began to focus his composing on worship music for liberal faiths, and this writing eventually led to the release of his first worship album in 2008 entitled When We Sing. In September, 2008, Dana was hired as the first Contemporary Worship Associate at First UU Church of San Diego.

The main focus of Dana's music-making at First UU Church is leading worship every Sunday morning for the satellite congregation of the South Bay. U.U.'s of the South Bay is a satellite campus of First U.U. which is located 18 miles south of First Church in Chula Vista, CA. Dana has been using his experience with the U.U.'s of the South Bay to utilize music from the UU tradition as well as his own music to build a model for contemporary worship within the UU movement. Dana is currently pursuing accreditation in the Unitarian Universalist Association’s three-year Music Leadership program.
